Pioneers in Women Empowerment

Today Google, India has created a doodle paying tribute to Dr. Rukhmabai Raut, India’s first Woman Physician to practice ‘Medicine’ in colonial India.  Not only is she  remembered for her work in Medicine but , it was her legal fight against her husband to forcefully keep her in wedlock in that era. The case of Rukhmabai Vs Dadaji (her husband) prompted the then British government to bring the Age of Consent Act, 1891. We owe her the ‘Right of Consent’.

On November 15, 2017, Google, India had created doodle to remember Cornelia Sorabji, India’s First Woman Advocate. As a legal advisor, she took the cause of purdahnashins, and the veiled women. She fought to get their rightful share of the property, education and get employment.

These great women are the pioneers in Women Empowerment who have lead by example. They have shown us Women a path of liberation from old unjustified traditions. They have struggled to prove themselves in their respective professions. And successfully made a special place for themselves way back in late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Today in 2017, when we talk about women empowerment, we who are lucky enough to get educated and self sufficient, must be humble and proud of such extraordinary women who have paved the way for our generations. We must use this opportunity bestowed upon  us by helping fellow women who have not been so fortunate.

Each of us need to think, in what way can I make a difference in someone else’s life? May be you have the necessary qualification or a special talent or a skill, which can be used to bring about such a change.  Are you willing?

So, ladies, let’s come together, join hands and march towards a new enriched world.
